A few years ago “The Titleist Performance Institute” was formed to study the golf swing, specifically to research why players like Jim Furyk, John Daly, Ernie Els have a high degree of success yet strike the golf ball completely different.
Co-founders Dr. Greg Rose, a chiropractor and PGA Professional Dave Phillips created the following golf swing philosophy. • “We don’t believe there is one way to swing a club; we believe that are an infinite number of ways to swing a club. But we do believe that there is one efficient way for all golfers to swing a club and it is based on what they can physically do.”
TPI developed a series of screens which assess the player’s current fitness level. The screening quickly checks a golfer’s range of motion from ankles up through the body to their wrists. Normally if a weakness is detected compensations or reliance on other parts of body causes a swing fault. If you correct a weakness through physical training you can indeed improve your ball striking.
Today www.mytpi.com is the ultimate golf fitness website. You can find articles and golf fitness advice from golf professionals and industry leaders for free. I would encourage all golfers to visit this site. They also certify Golf Professionals, Fitness Professionals and Medical Professionals on their program. Which, I am level one certified.
The TPI Process:
• Physical Screen – Eleven physical screens are performed to determine how the body relates to your golf swing.
• Video Analysis – Swing View Pro identifies your swing faults.
• Custom Workout – a physical workout is created by mytpi.com. The program gives you a golf fitness handicap, video demonstration of recommended exercises and the ability to print out or download your program to an iPod
